London wanted a picture of her new Jeep up. There are a couple of funny stories about the jeep:

1. The day after her birthday Brett asked me "So, then what did we get for London?" I told him the Jeep. He said "oh, London told me that Allie gave her that" I said oh no she's being silly. So I asked London, "who gave you that cute jeep?" She answered "Allie" Awesome!!
Allie is such a generous friend!!

2. We hid this jeep behind The Basinger's fence as a big surprise for the end of her party. Julia saw it and when Jane said "that's a surprise for London..." Julia said "but mom, I thought we were giving London Snow White and those dorks" I love this quote for so many reasons. Julia you are so dang cute!!

I really am so glad I have the chance to be around London's friends so often. She couldn't be more spoiled with such darling, funny, nice and fun little friends.

My Flower Girl

Disclaimer: When I asked London what kind of birthday she wanted without hesitation she said "a flower party". I really didn't know where to start. Whilst researching I discovered a few really cute ideas on blogs and such. A couple found nestled right in our cozy Maple Community. Namely the ever so creative and mysterious Ruthanne Hotton and the winner of our 2008 Maple MVP, Jane Basinger. Merry Christmas!!All he wants for Christmas is his...He sang this at his school program and was so proud that he really did lose both his front teeth just in time for Christmas. Santa did not bring him front teeth. I don't think he really does that.Christmas morning! Soooo fun. The kids were so excited and said it was the best Christmas. I liked the waking up before 6 a.m. part. Fun!

Just Dance....

I feel like little girls are meant to dance! I loved watching London at her first dance experience. She overdoes the graceful arms and her skip is hilarious...but the cutest thing ever. She gets to go with Julia and Katie two of her favorite little friends. It's good to be four. She also started pre-school atJoey Brough's. So cute... London loves it!

Time does go faster when you are having fun. Jonah is so much fun. He is such a bright little guy...he says uh oh(not on demand) He waves bye bye, he plays bonk, he clucks at you. Sometimes when I kiss his extremely kissable cheeks over and over he thinks he has to return the favor then he clucks his tongue trying to mimic the kiss sound. He also tries to be so manly and always use his deep voice when gooing and gaaing. How cute he is. He just melts my heart.

Even though it takes a small miracle to get The Dickie Clan all in the same place at the same time, it's a pretty fun time. We went to the rec. center and the main attraction turned out to be diving...especially daring each other to go off the highest dive. There were a handful of Dickies on the highest dive for 40 minutes. Debating. 10 minutes Jason...20 minutes we hear Tash yelling "I'm going to Maui" then 20 more minutes of pacing, all of us at the bottom yelling "just do it!" Finally Brent took the plunge...and then Jessica and Zak. Brave! I was pretty impressed. Brett and Eddie and all of the kids went off some pretty decent high dives. Carson even went on the "big" diving board twice. That kid is so cute. He said that under water he was thinking "oops, I don't know if I'll make it up to the top" poor guy. Overall I give our fun day at the rec. center a 10.

Girls Day!

We often get to celebrate our little girls. Days are full of princess activities, tea parties, dress up, house (or as Laney Jessup calls it...home), polly pockets, babies, pet shop, story time, a show, Hullabaloo and start over again. If we get all of these things in at least twice a day my little London has a happy day. Otherwise, at the end of the day I get the

- A heart-warming story about a contemporary man and his small pores

So rather than be embarrassed about it... I might as well post it for the world to see, exposing a new, delicate, yet oh-so-masculine side of me and just own it. Yes, it is true... Mr. Maylett got a facial treatment in June. It's not like I paid for it though!

For a work related event I had to go to Los Carneros Resort Spa in Napa Valley, California (poor me) for three days. The company that hosted the event set us up with several activities including golf, mountain biking, swimming, massage etc. However, one day they gave us the choice of either going on a wine-tasting tour or getting a facial treatment. Most of the people there were really excited about the wine-tasting, so they went a wine bibbin'. Being the sober Mormon that I am, I hesitantly opted for the facial.

So I showed up at the spa 15 minutes early as instructed, and the lady at the desk told me go into the locker room, shower, sit in the steam room for 15 minutes, get a bath robe on and meet the facial therapist (is that what they are called?) in the lobby. My question to the receptionist is... "Why does one need to be in the buff for a facial?" The whole thing sounded kind of fishy to me, but I did it anyway after she assured me that I would be covered with blankets.

So after I sat in the lobby in my robe for about five minutes with all of the other ladies (they only had Cosmo and Self magazines) the face lady came in and took me back to the face room where I listened to some New Age Peruvian music and got into the massage bed thingie until she came in. First she steamed my face and picked all of my zits, which is always a treat. Then she rubbed some stuff that felt like sandpaper and smelled like lemons into my face. Then she began massaging my face in a manner most pleasant while we talked about everything from Oprah to natural gas. I kind of tuned out the face lady after she started saying something about free radicals in my skin and how some miraculous new lotion had beads filled with Vitamin C in it. She complimented my skin (I think that telling someone that they have fine, small pores is a compliment, right?) and my skin thanked her. She also told me to make sure that I always put sunscreen on my temples and the top of my head, which I took as "You are going bald". Then I got the hair yanked off of my back (that helped explain the previously mentioned excessive exposure) with some sticky crap and some fly paper. It took everything that I had not to spew out a stream of obscenities at the face lady. The whole thing took about an hour and a half.

Of course, I would never pay for a facial, but overall, it was a gratifying experience. I didn't have any wrinkles in my face for about three days and the best part was when I went back into the locker room and a man said "Oh my gosh look at you! Your face is like... GLOWING!" I waited until he left the locker room to change back into my clothes. I felt creepy doing it with that dude around .

The Napa Valley trip was actually very relaxing. Along with the facial, I got in a little golf, some swimming and some mountain biking. I also now know more about wine than most people that I know even though I couldn't really tell you what it tastes like.

Next month I may watch Divine Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants so stay tuned for that!

The kids both had a birthday while we had no computer. This is our happy little Carson. Isn't he darling? He is such a good little boy.

2. His stories "um uh mom and guess what" is how they always start...and they don't really have an end.

4. The way he still loves his blanket and feels he will betray it if he uses his new one too much.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS!!

London turned 4 a few weeks ago and I just wanted to give her a little shout out from mom. She is such a cute little girl. She will definitely be our jokester. She is always making us laugh.

She has a cold and the other night she said out of the blue...at dinner...gosh I blew my nose so hard that a monkey fell out. That's pretty funny to a 4 year old. London couldn't stop laughing...and it made us laugh too.

My four favorite things about London:

1. She always holds my hand.

2. She looks in the mirror to make sure I did her hair.

3. She will tell me that she doesn't like what I made for dinner and then says but I love you though.

4 She gets crushes on older boys, ...she blushes, gets nervous, laughs at everything they say...it's so cute..for now. (keep your distance Harrison and James...j/k)

Living Solo

While Candace and the Maylett crew are in St. George all week I'm all alone at the West Jordan compound. That makes it my responsibility to keep up everything (yeah right) including the blog. It's a little odd without all of the noises and things at home at night. I've actually kind of used it as an opportunity to catch up on the list of things that I have needed to do at work. That has made the week go by faster. It's still a little sad not being with the people that you love.

The fam will be coming back on Friday, so that means on Thursday I will need to pick up the fortress of Coke cans, two liter bottles, Slurpee cups, plates, pots/pans ('cause I ran out of plates), blankets and 7-11 nacho trays that have built up around the living room couch. I should also probably shave my Tom Hanks-Castaway beard (I might keep a lip-brow for a couple of days, just for Candace) and comb out the matted parts of my hair.

I know, I know, we haven't updated or commented forever. It is with good reason however, our computer crashed!...yes all my baby Jonah pics on it. Yes...most of 2007 and 2008 pics on it. And, no I had not finished putting them all on disk. Devastating. So if I'm slow checking your cute blogs it's because I'm using the in-laws or Starbucks computer cafe (I wish I was that hip) So, we'll still be checking in on all you all's... just a little slower. Otherwise Mayletts doing well.

Cute Carson story: Soccer practice...he scores...faces the parents and sings "uh-hunh, oh yeah, I'm big time..I win, I win" It was so out of character and freakin cute of him! I love that kid.

Cute London story: FHE she chose the song "Tell me the stories of Jesus" She gets to the part that says 'down by the wayside' and belts out "Down by the website" that says a lot about the times we livin' in...right? We laughed. Pretty cute.

Cute Jonah story: He's just always cute. and fat. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes to eat in this family. He works on his abs a lot though by doing sit ups. He does about 10 in a row 3 or 4 times a day. Grunting and all. He is so frappin' cute.

What should we see?

I now have great reluctance to ever choose the flick when seeing a movie with friends. How do you cope with the trauma and embarrassment of choosing a horrible one? I mean, if you pick a blah one or one with a dumb ending...not a big deal. I'm talking about picking one that is so bad that it makes your friends physically sick!

We were so excited to get out with some good friends. Popcorn, soda everything good and healthy. Movie starts. 20 minutes in; I'm thinking...What is this? I'm hoping I just hate it and can suffer through it quietly. As movie continues, anxiety sets in like a thick cloud hovering over our big, comfy, movie seats that have rocking capabilities. 30 minutes in; people are leaving the theatre nauseated.

Are you serious? Who makes money off this kind of movie? Confusion as we leave the theatre. Applebees desert helps displace the awkwardness of the moment. But, it's too late. The wound runs deep and resurfaces it's ugly head when a girls night out brings us another similar misfortune.

FIGHTING BACK: We now have a code word "Hobby Lobby" If the movie sucks, we will attempt to get our money back and spend it at Hobby Lobby or another place that never seems to fail us.We will take action against these rediculous plots.
We will sit still in our comfy theatre chairs no longer. We will refuse this embarrassment. We will refuse giving our good money to crap.

Three Months o' Bundle o' Joy

ONE MONTH
How cute is he?? Our camera does funky things with the date...It was actually taken on Jan. 9th. This is the day he really started smiling. I worked really hard to catch it, so this picture makes my heart tingle...I love this baby!
Here's baby and me on January 4th. One month old. The kids wanted to take pictures and are forcing me to put one of theirs on the page. Future shutterbugs. Marriage...Perfected in Tivo

I thought that Candace and I had a strong marriage. Then we got Tivo. Our love has increased by about 11 percent in less than a year. We don't miss anything anymore. One thing that we like to do is record Jazz games, then watch them about 45 minutes late. We fast forward through timeouts, commercials and half-time. It rules. The only problem is that Candace's Mom and Dad tend to call before we've finished the fourth quarterand give the end away. We love them anyway. Speaking of the Jazz... Wow! They are on a roll! And on a side note... Has anyone noticed Larry H. Miller's creepy elbows? What could cause an elbow to do that? If Matt Harpring had elbows like that he could deliver a lethal blow.

I Love the Flu

Flu is the story for the Mayletts in January. We've pretty much all had it at least twice this month. Right now Candace is on round two. This makes it even harder for her to sleep in the night (on a side note - Jonah is the primary reason. I swear his eyes glow in the night when he's awake and he snores when he's asleep). She is a freakin' champion though. Carson, London and myself all spent a night in January with our heads hanging over the toilet. 'Twas great fun. It's hard to imagine that something so small can make you feel so awful. The crazy thing is that we all had flu shots, but it seems like we have been more sick this year than ever.

We're trying to do better at keeping in touch with friends and family in 2008. It has been great to see some of your blogs and/or speak and/or just hang out with you. For those of you that didn't win the drawing in January, there are still over 11 months in which you could win some quality time with the Mayletts. Just plan on getting sick.

A New Maylett!!!

Jonah Dickie Maylett was born on Dec. 2, 2007. He weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. He looks quite a bit like Carson did when he was a baby, which is fine because Carson is adorable. The kids smother him with love (sometimes smother turns to suffocate when London gets involved).

There were a few tense moments, but everything turned out just fine in the end. Candace is recovering well and is once again learning what it is like to be a night person.

I'm just excited that there is now another boy on Team Maylett! Carson often points out that we have a bigger team than the girls. Funny thing though... Jonzie doesn't do a whole lot. He basically eats and sleeps. Sometimes he flails his arms around with no real purpose. Carson says "that's because there are all these pipes in his brain and they just aren't connected yet."

-Yeah. Sometimes my pipes don't connect so well either.

The kids had so much fun at their Halloween play date. All of the girls were princesses and demanded to be treated as such. We are so blessed to live in a neighborhood where our kids have so many good friends to play with. We love you guys!

On Halloween night we all went Trick-or treating thanks to mom and dad who handed the candy out. Because of Brett's great new job this is the first year he was able to Trick -or - Treat so the kids were so excited. He dressed up in a scary costume.
Zak and Cattibrie came with us...which was great fun. Zak yelled "I don't want your candy" as soon as someone would open their door. That was fun. Zak didn't accept any candy but was confused that we wouldn't let him take 1/2 of Carson's. That kid is hilarious. Cattibrie and London were darling. They were so excited to yell trick-or-treat. It was a fun night.

Trip of Death

We are now all back from our Jackson/Yellowstone trip... All of us but the car. Candace and I lost our not so beloved first major purchase together in Idaho Falls on our way up to Jackson, Wyoming. It had been running great and I had just put new tie rods on it (I was really proud of myself). It was just an ill-fated trip. That is the only thing that I can come up with. We pulled in for a break at a gas station (Candace is pregnant, remember) and when we tried to leave we couldn't get the stupid thing to go into gear. Luckily there was an Avis right across the street and we were able to get a rental car. So we left the Ford Taurus in the greasy hands of the mechanic and continued on to Jackson to attend the renowned Wyoming Gas Fair. The mechanic called us the next day and my worst fears were realized. The transmission needed to be replaced. So, with the car basically totalled, we decided to sell it to the guy for $250. We ended up having a pretty good time, even considering the following:

I had the Flu
Candace was pregnant
Carson hates bison
London threw up

Other than that it was great! with the exception of the last day, the weather couldn't have been better. We saw all of the Yellowstone sites and basically ate ourselves into a ridiculous state. We'll have to post some pics that we took.

We've had an exciting month! Carson started Kindergarten and London has officially started pre-school. This means that a pregnant and weary Candace has started nap-time. She deserves it.

The Mayletts are headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming next Wednesday (19th). I (Brett) have to attend the Wyoming Gas Fair (sounds thrilling doesn't it?) for work. Then we will head up to Yellowstone for the weekend. The kids are really excited. They are convinced that we will see some bears. Candace, who has travelled to just about every part of the planet, has somehow never been to Yellowstone so she is also excited to go. I'm mostly just excited for the year-long car drive.

Carson also started soccer this week. He loves it!

Candace took off for Long Beach, California last Thursday. I took Thursday and part of Friday off so I could stay home with the Kids. We were on our way home from Grandpa and Grandma Maylett's house on Friday when we saw the hugest dust devil that I've ever seen headed right for the car. It was carrying dirt, boards, weeds, sloths and about everything you can imagine. Carson yelled "It's a tornado!" and the kids both started to scream. I pounced on the gas and we beat it before it crossed the road just in time for Carson to scold me. "You almost killed us Dad!" They have been telling everybody that we almost got killed by a tornado ever since.

Friday night we had a SpongeBob party. I told them that they could stay up as long as they wanted while we had a pizza picnic in front of the TV and watched the Spongebob marathon on Nickelodeon. They lasted until about 10:00.

Saturday I took the kids fishing at Lost Creek. We didn't catch a dang thing, but we had a good time anyway. I'm not sure that I will be taking them again for a while.

The "Magical" Candace tried to fly home Sunday night but because of her stand-by status she didn't get out until late Monday night. Her friend Tina took her in for the night so she didn't have to re-live childhood memories of sleeping in the airport. It was nice to get her back. I think that it is good for me for her to go missing once in a while - due to the fact that it helps me understand just how much she does while I am at work. She is a great Mom. I still love her.

Candace and I have been married for eight... count 'em... eight years. We celebrated our anniversary on Tuesday by going to Apollo Burger (we really celebrate big-time) and Steven King's 1408. It was pretty dang good. We plan on celebrating it right one of the next few weekends. We usually go to Park City for the weekend... Just a little tradition that started on our first night together.

Blurb. Blog. These are two of the greatest words in the English vocabulary. The prospect of using the two words together in one phrase just flat-out tickles me all over. Why then, would I not put these two forces together to create the Maylett Family Blurb 'n Blog?

So the Idea, for the moment anyway, is to update this blog every week. Hopefully this can give our friends an insight to our family and our activities and also provide a family journal.

The Mayletts are:

Brett - Dad
Candace - Mom
Carson- Five year-old boy
London- Three year-old girl

Leonard- Uterus Warrior

Our home is in West Jordan, Utah, which sits on the West bench of the Salt Lake Valley. It's a great place to live. We have been there for about two years. Cedar City and West Valley are also places that we have called home during the past eight years of our married lives.

I work as a Marketing Representative for Kern River Gas Transmission. I have been there since last December. Candace is now a full-time Mom. She just finished her last year as a teacher at Union Middle School in Sandy, Utah.

Dangit! I like the Mayletts.
